Welcome to the Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre Partnership Website

The council and its partners the Welsh Assembly Government recognise the important role the centre plays in the life of those who live, visit and work in Merthyr Tydfil, and in developing the economic health of the area. They have made a commitment to achieving significant improvements to the centre over the next 5 years.

If this aim is to be achieved it will require the active support and input from all stakeholders – those who own property, run businesses, operate services and of customers and consumers.

This web site will be one means of keeping people informed of what is proposed, and on the progress of agreed projects. It also provides one method of feedback, so that people can express views, make suggestions or merely comment on town centre issues.

Urban regeneration and economic development consultants, URBED, have drawn on experience in other historic coal and steel towns in Belgium, Germany and Sweden to suggest new ways of revitalising the centre, for example by using the restoration of old buildings to create jobs and new community facilities.
