Where To Shop
There are a wide selection of stores in Merthyr Tydfil Town
Centre. With all the usual High Street stores, as well as local
independants. The main trading hours are from 9.00pm - 5.30pm
Monday to Saturday. Larger stores are open for Sunday trading from
10.30am until 4.30pm (please check opening hours with individual
stores).
There are two covered shopping areas in the town centre. These
are:
St Tydfil's Shopping Centre
Home to the indoor market and many of the national stores,
including Wilkinsons, Boots, D2 Jeans, New Look and many more.
Beacon's Arcade
Linking the High Street to the Railway Station this arcade
houses Game Station, Internacionale, Clarks and many more.
There are other shopping streets within the town centre these
include:
High Street
A traditional pedestrian High Street that includes all major
banks, Peacocks, Superdrug, WH Smith and independent stores such as
Phase and IQ Clothing.
Cafe Quarter
At the lower end of the High Street the Cafe Quarter offers
outdoor dining at a choice of eateries, including The New Crown
Inn, Chaplin's, Anne's Pantry and The Park Orient. Outdoor events
are often held at the large public square here.
Pontmorlais
The original high street now offers a selection of independent
niche businesses including Manette's, Hairport, MOKSH and the
Imperial Hotel. The area is currently being developed as a Heritage
Quarter with Heritage Lottery Funding.
Glebeland and Victoria Street
Located off the main High Street these side streets have an
abundance of independent stores and services including Anne's
Florist, Formally For You, Options Card and Gifts, A2 Clothing and
Millward's Butchers.

There are four markets that operate on a regular basis in
the Town Centre. These are:

- M&B Street Market
- Farmers Market
- Craft Market

St Tydfil's Indoor Market
This indoor market is managed by St Tydfil's Shopping Centre,
and is located in the market hall on the first floor of the
shopping centre. There are a wide variety of stalls in the market,
including a deli, bakery, jeweller, ironmonger, café and many
more.

M&B Street Market
The street market is operated by M&B Markets every Tuesday
at Saturday in the main High Street and Market Square. The market
has an excellent selection of goods and services on offer including
fruit, vegetables, meat, clothing, rugs and much more.

Farmers Market
This is a Council operated market that is open to producers of
food and crafts. All produce must be grown, reared or have added
value and be from within a 50 mile radius. This is a small direct
sales market located on the High Street and is limited to one
producer of each item. Items for sales include lamb, cheese, cream
cakes, vegetarian snacks, and books.
Open 1st Friday of every month 10am -
2.00pm.

Craft Market
A new monthly market for local artisans is held in Lower High
Street the day after the Farmers Market. All prodcuts are handmade
within the South Wales region. A wide selection of crafts are
available to purchase and include paintings, prints, cards,
textiles, and jewellery.
1st Saturday of the month, 10am -3pm
